I added a couple touches to my entryway display this weekend. Giant spider was $1 at the dollar store, and the web material and tiny spiders were a dollar together. Sweet! The girls were a little apprehensive at first!

Forgive the less than impressive pictures. Not a lot of light gets into my entryway! I had to share with you the almost finished product!

My dad gave me this table, which I of course painted white, and I sewed a white table runner for it, and also since I was planning to put halloween decor on it, I sewed a little candy corn pillow, I just whipped it up sort of last minute, but I kid of love it! :-) The table was free- and the paint was $10, so pretty good price for a brand new table!

I walked by this beauty 3 different times at the thrift store, telling myself I didn't have anywhere for it. I realized the entryway was perfect for it, and brought it home. It was a strange dark gold color. I bought the mirror for $5.50 and painted it for $5, so it was also a great deal. I LOVE it! I don't really love how it blends in with my walls, but this spring when we buy a house I can actually paint my walls in COLOR and then all my white stuff will really POP! Excited!

Girly Bedroom Reveal!

Alright. I know I've been severely lacking in the consistent blogging department. But, I am super excited to finally share with you part of the the girls bedroom! I have been painting a TON of items in my house, and this dresser is one of them!

Ready to hear how thrifty it was?

Bedsets- Target- Orginally $60, I got them on sale for $30 each!

Rug- $22 (marked down from $35)

Dresser- Free from my Grandma- plus about $30 to repaint and add new hardware

(by the way the paint color is Mermaids Treasure from home depot)

Mirror- $3 (steal!) and about $3 worth of spray paint

Other frames- free- repainted old frames I already had with leftover paint!

Prints- 4 8by10 photos- $12

I am so pleased with the result!

Obviously I still have stuff to add- I want to make some turquoise pillows for their beds, I want to find a super girly lamp for the dresser, and I REALLY want to make some cheap chandelier type things for over their beds. Especially since I'm too cheap to buy a bedframe! HA! But have you looked at those? They are so expensive, and thrifting one isn't really an option because I need two that match!

As much as I absolutely LOVE the color I chose for the dresser, I really don't love the slight streak marks from hand painting. So, in the future, I will either be buying a hand held sprayer, or just stick with the store bought spray paint.

This mirror is so detailed, I love it! I got it almost a year ago in South Carolina, on a thrifting trip to Columbia with my good friend Erin! I am SO pleased with how it turned out! It was gold originally, and I painted it berry pink, (spray paint from home depot) and it ended up cracking a bit because of the age of the mirror. It's a really cool effect, I wish you could see it better!

And these frames up top, I just love the pictures I chose for them!

So what do you think? It's a work in progress, but I am so thrilled with how it's turning out!

I have been dying to get some cute family photos up in our house. My mom took some for us this weekend, and about 42 of them turned out! Sparing you that entourage, here are a "few" of my favorites. I was really going for the slightly vintage feel.

My dress is from JCPenney thanks to my mom for buying it for me! My new boots are from Target, and I LOVE them.

Do you remember THIS POST? Well, I've had it mostly completed for a month now, and last night I finally pulled out the spray paint.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out! And it cost me $7! I actually used those foam letters in the kids craft section, and then spray painted over to cover up the bright colors.

I would have liked to have the different sizes of letters, but unfortunately I could only find these ones!

This is a super simple, high impact piece of art! :-)

I am planning on putting this in our bedroom when we have a house and can actually have gray walls. It will really pop against color, but unfortunately right now I only have boring walls!

What I Wore Wednesday

I went out shopping today and I wore this super cute outfit!

(my camera is STILL taking terrible pics, so sorry about the terrible photo quality!)

And, these pant are actually amazingly cute on, the picture makes them look a big baggy and frumpy.

Had to improvise to get a good picture of my super cute YELLOW shoes, which I got at DI for $4! Yay!

Paired with my yellow earrings made my me, I was quite happy and comfortable in this outfit! :-)

Fall Dress PREVIEW...

I am going to style a real photoshoot for this dress for Lizzie's "Fall Collection", using my mom's nice camera, but for now I just couldn't wait to show you! I made everything about this dress from scratch. Upcycling fabric from old t-shirts. I was attempting this...

Unfortunately I didn't have those colors, so I made it with cream on top, and brown ruffles.

I am okay with how it turned out. I learned a lot while making it. One of which is, don't hem every ruffle. It will take FOREVER! And it makes it more bulky in the end.

I have some TURQOUISE knit that I am planning to use to make Sara one. Another thing I learned with this was that while the two tone color blocking looks great, when she moves or twirls, the cream shows under the ruffles, which I think looks tacky and homemade. So the next one will be all one color. Maybe with an accent color belt?

My camera did take one good picture though. And it may be my favorite picture I've ever taken of Lizzie.

Tunic top - winter wardrobe sewing

I found this tutorial over at Sewing In No Mans Land. It was a bit tricky because you have to eyeball all the cutting on our own, no pattern. Because of that, Lizzie's turned out too small and will actually fit Sara. But, it was still super easy and fun to make! I actually want to use the same idea and make it not reversible, using less fabric and bias tape for the edges.

What a silly girl I have! I certainly hope that I can start having project for my older daughter actually turn out in her size, or Sara's wardrobe is just going to get bigger and bigger! Ha! Does anyone else do that accidentally?

And, I just had to include this cute picture of Lizzie. Love it!

Make your own almond flour!

So, since going gluten free, my favorite new baking "flour" is almond flour. It's sooo sweet, and makes really yummy desserts. I was super sad when I realized a bag of it at the store is $10!! For about 3 cups worth.

Why so expensive!? Granted, it's made with blanched almond, so the flour is finer and has no brown specks from the skins, but still... $10! And it only last maybe 2 or 3 recipes?

So, I decided I would make my own. I went to Winco and bought whole, unsalted almonds, raw.

I bought about 2 1/4 lbs

I pulled out my blender and proceeded to put about half the almonds in...

Which I don't suggest, because then they will look like this. The bottom half will get all gummy and the top half will never read the bottom! So I suggest a cup or two at a time!

Blend them as finely as possible, careful between batches to pick out any pieces that didn't get powdered, and grind them again.

And... you now have almond flour!

(technically because it's not super fine, it really classifies as "almond meal", and that works for me!)

I was able to get about 10 cups from this, and it only cost me $6.50! Much better price!

Now, take that almond flour and make something yummy, and Gluten-free! Actually, this recipe I'm about to send you to is easy, and my family who is not gluten-free loved it!

This recipe is delicous, my husband does NOT like honey and even he enjoyed it. And best of all, no white, refined sugar... unless you dust it like I did. Oops. :-)

Ok, first off, I am super bummed, because I have to close my shop, AGAIN. My daughter has been wearing her tie-dye shoes, and I noticed the colors were bleeding onto her feet and socks. Grrr! While this doesn't bug me personally so much, (because they are so cute, they are worth it!) I cannot sell products that do that.

On the same note... would anyne want to learn how to make these shoes? I would be willing to do a tutorial if anyone was interested? I must admit, I even made myself a pair, and I love them! I feel like a teenager in them! :-) And my girls LOVE theirs, always begging to wear them!

I am planning to MAKE the girls fall wardrobe completely from fabric I have on hand. Sara will be easier because she can wear pants that Lizzie wore last year. And I refuse to make jeans! HA! But, I have seen people do this before, so I am going to attempt it! :-) Fun!

The Apron Skirts!

We went to Utah for a family reunion this past month, and I decided to make the girls some simple skirts to wear there. I got the idea from lilblueboo.blogspot.com, and although a great tutorial, I basically just used the idea of an apron skirt to make these my own way.

(gotta love the annoyed look on Sara's face!)

One of my goals has been to be more detail oriented while sewing. I tend to whip through project just to finish them as quickly as possible.

No more. I am concentrating on the details! Like these adorable aprons with little pockets!

I also love the fact that I could use little scraps for the apron. Stash buster!

I made Lizzie's with twice as much fabric for a higher "spin factor". I'm tired of meltdowns when she puts on a skirt I've labored over and screams "It doesn't SPIN FASTER!" Argh!

Cilantro Chicken

This is my FAVORITE way to have chicken. It's quick and simple, and goes well on rice or tortillas. This recipe is from adapted from my mom's recipe for our more "veggie loving" family!

4-5 chicken breasts, diced

1 large onion- or more if you prefer

1 or 2 red peppers (or any color would work fine)

2 cloves garlic, chopped

2 TBS butter

2 TBS oil

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1/4-1/2 cup fresh cilantro or 3 TBS dried

Cut chicken into small pieces and cook in oil, butter, salt, pepper and garlic on a skillet. When chicken is about halfway done, add onion, peppers, and cilantro. Cook until chicken is browned and veggies are soft. We like our veggies slightly crisp, but if you want yours more soft you can add them in at the beginning with the chicken.

Barbie Organization- genius!

My girls LOVE barbies. Just like thier Mommy- I don't remember playing with anything else as a kid, my sister and I were OBSESSED with Barbies.

So, it probably has nothing to do with me that my girls also LOVE thier barbies.

But... they get everywhere. And they are so tricky to store- you always have to sift through a whole box of them to find anything!

I got this idea from a magazine- a few years ago, and finally put it to action in our new apartment!

Any guesses as to what it is??! It's a shoe hanger- you know, the plastic kind that hangs over your closet door! It works perfectly! And cheap too!

And here's my happy girl with the barbie I picked up for her at a garage sale for about $.50 each! I was soooo excited! They are in great shape (or rather, they were in great shape til Lizzie got hold of them!) and 3 of them happen to be barbies I owned when I was little! They don't make them like they used to so I was thrilled!

Shhhh. Don't tell anyone. I think I like them more than she does. You see that purple ballerina? Her name was Teresa, and she was my sisters. I can't believe I remember that!

Earring Frame- I'm Back!

So... after a long bloggy break- I am finally back with a craft!

I am one of those people who doesn't feel completely dressed for the day unless I'm wearing earrings. And I had WAY to many that didn't match, and it was WAY too difficult to match the ones that had both. So, I came up with this!

I took a cheap frame from a thrift store, and painted it with that cheapy paint in the little bottle. (you know- that stuff your mom used all the time!) I LOVE the color! And I tore out the glass and backing in the frame, and bought some of that super cheap stuff they use on screens and stapled in on the back. Perfecto! And for $4!

Also, the container supporting my headbands is made from an oatmeal canister! I basically just covered it with paper! I need to add some ribbon on the top though because it looks terrible! But in the middle of unpacking boxes, my glue gun hasn't turned up yet!

Gluten-free!

So, for the past few months, I've been wondering why I feel so yucky all the time. And I've had some lower abdomen pain that was random and quite painful. I did some research, and not having insuance right now to go to the doctors, I deduced the possibility of a gluten allergy. So, for the past two weeks I have been gluten free, and last night I did my "test" and ate gluten. Sure enough, I've been sick and bloated all day today. So, I think that's a pretty good sign. It's hard to not eat wheat! If any of you also deal with this I would love your advice!

Update on our lives, we are happy to announce that my husband got a GREAT job that will allow us to buy a house here in the Boise area, and that we can settle down here! So now that he has a job I will feel slightly less stressed, but this blog may not pick up again until we get into our own place. It's hard to craft here, with no space for my stuff! Thanks for following, and don't give up on me! I have some great ideas ready to explode out of my brain if I don't get some sewing time in soon! :-)

A 50 hour journey... from one home to another....

(btw, this is me on day 4 of our trip, with me doing 95% of the driving, so yes, I look awful and exhausted!)

We made it back to Idaho! Such a long, long drive, and it took us about 50 hours, pulling a trailer. We said goodbye to our wonderful south carolina friends, and then left. So bittersweet. We have now been here a week and are settling into our "between" house, as job and housing decisions are made.

(Sara getting her excercise during the drive! ha!)

Many crafts to come soon! I now have access to a SERGER! And as soon as I conquer it, mainly threading it, I will be pumping out the clothes like crazy!

Yes, everyone's life gets busy, mine for sure has been crazy busy- but mostly in a fun way. We have been enjoying our last few weeks here in Florence SC, our home for the past year, and we know are down to the wire, we leave for our 40 drive back to Idaho on this Thursday, the 2nd. So bittersweet. This has truly been our home for the past year, and it is so hard to leave! But we have been making the most of it, barbeque, swimming, beach trip, and lots of eating out! (including a few southern dishes I will never try again... collards for one. ICK!) :-)

So, again, the blog is being neglected. But, only because my sewing machine is packed away. I am still bursting with inpiration! :-)

A Birthday Dress for Sara!

For this cutie's birthday I wanted to make her a special dress. Her sister is ALWAYS getting dresses, but she always seems to get the ones that turn out too small. This time- the dress was made just for her. And fits her personality perfectly! What a goofball!

I bought a cute tank from Target and paired it with some of my Heather Bailey hoarded fabric! My favorite print! I LOVE how this turned out, especially the sleeves. My husband also really like this dress, one of his favorites that I've made. Yay!

Easter Skirt for Mommy!

Here is the skirt I made for me for easter! I loved the fabric, and got it with a coupon at joanns. I DID use a pattern for the skirt, but as usual altered it a bit. I really like the way it turned out! The only problem with it was I measured myself and cut it out before I started dieting, and so it is now about 6-7 inches too big around the waist, I've tried altering it, but because it has cute pockets on the side, it look a little wierd now. But... I made it, and I it's cute!

Home Inspiration

Okay, I am now going to put up some things that are inspiring me, probably not quite on a daily basis, but more regularly. Have you discovered Pinterest? If not, go now and sign up. I now can organize easily all the photos and items that I want to copy or make!

Today, I am sharing a few things I've found recently that I would like to incorporate in my future home.

This reading nook is to die for. Not a huge fan of the colors, but I LOVE the layout, with the bookshelves and the daybed. And, this would be a great way to utilize a small space!

Okay, now I SO need to paint my piano. And I SO want to paint it this color! Not really sure how easy of a paint job this would be though...

Not only do I love the color scheme, I love the way this utlizes space, putting the bed in a corner, and it still loks really nice, and super cozy!

Girl's Easter Dresses!

As promised, here are the pictures of the girl's easter dresses, finally! My show is over, and I miss it a lot, but I have a lot of crafting to show off, and to work on!

This fabric screamed to me Easter dresses, the minute I saw it. It's lightweight and perfect for spring.

I designed both patterns myself, and each dress is slightly different. And... they each have zippers in the back!

Unfortunately that's the best picture I could get of them together... argh!

My sad wardrobe...

So... my closet is in sad shape. I have been losing weight still, and my clothes mostly fit really baggy, and I am currently between sizes. When I have the money (which is never) and when I finish losing weight, here are some items I would really like to add to my closet- obviously though, cheap versions...
These shoes are amazing. Not too high, RED, and ruffly. So gorgeous.
These turqouise shoes are to die for. Perfect height, perfect color, perfect shape! I would wear these all the time!

I want red shoes to wear with navy stripes. And those washed out jeans are CUTE too.

I want to add some of this color scheme, pink and grey, with dark jeans. I want every item in this picture, but the generic items I want to add are some skinny dark jeans, vintage pink tee shirt, and some gray and white or cream stripes.

I am trying to make what I have "work" but I really don't have that much to work with that is great. Note to self, stop buying plain t-shirts! :-)

Items on my want list- in no particular order...

-bright shoes, flats AND pumps- goal to wear pumps during the week... yellow and red being priorities
-cardigans. since we're moving back to Idaho I can justify this. :-) I want solid 3/4 sleeve ones, and some patterned ones as well- particularly dots and/or stripes
-a maxi dress
-more stripes
-cute jeans- some skinny and dark
-add texture
-only buy items I LOVE.

Do you have fashion goals? I feel like I have these great ideas and combos, but since I have a $0 clothing budget, I can't meet any of my goals, and I end up dressing so boring every day. And... now that my show is over... I really don't go anywhere any way... so I feel guilty wanting to look cute when I don't go anywhere!

Ladybug dress #2!

I've had this cut out for ages, and finally found a minute to sew it together for Lizzie.

Remember Sara's?

For Lizzie's I used the same techinque, I designed a ladybug, and freezer paper stenciled it onto the fabric, using screen printing paint. (higher quality)

Lizzie's shirt was a long sleeve one, and I didn't LOVE it, so I chopped the sleeves off, and added red buttons in place of the white, and then stenciled, and added layers for the skirt!

Now they have even more coordinating clothing! :-)

Into the Woods!

I am SO sorry for the huge break in posts. I just wanted to update those of you still reading this and let you know I AM still alive, just so tired! Our show opened Friday night, and we will close Saturday. A total of 8 performance! I have just been so busy, haven't had time for blogging! But, I do have some great pics of easter, just you wait! :-)

Also, we are so sad but we are moving back to Idaho in June. Derek got into grad school, and so we need to go back to Idaho. But, we are REALLY going to miss it here. A whole lot. This has been a great place for us this year. We are happy to be going back to family, but we have really grown close to a lot of people here.

That's really all I have for now. I am so tired- running on 4 hours of sleep from last night...

Zebra Skirt!

I made this cute skirt a year ago for a sale, and when it didn't sell, decided to keep it for Lizzie. She LOVES it, now that it finally fits!

Complete with an oversized bow... love it!

And, what else do you do in a skirt? spin of course!

On a positive note, their Easter dresses are finished! On a negative note... my skirt, which measured myself for about a month ago, is about 6 inches too big. That's good news because it means I've lost 6 inches around my waist, but bad news because I'm worried it will look wierd once I take it in. And, it's SO cute, I don't just want to chuck it! And all that work!!! :-)

As for rehearsals, we ran the whole show last night for the first time... and got to wear costumes. So fun! But we are a LONG way from being ready for opening night on the 29th!

Red White and Blue

Sorry for the sporadic posting this week! Between the fact that Into the Woods opens in 2 weeks, I have had a migraine for 4 days now~ so I just haven't been sewing. I started the girl's Easter dresses though, and I know I only have 9 days to finish them, those are very very busy 9 days, THEY WILL BE FINISHED.

They must!

A few firsts....

Okay, so I finally made Lizzie a dress with a zipper, from a pattern, and completely from scratch. And... it turned out pretty cute! To be honest... I didn't follow all the directions, I made up a few parts on my own, and I think it turned out better because I did it my way! :-)

The pattern was Simplicity 2460. And first off can I just say I will NOT be doing the bubble skirt again. It really looks terrible if you look closely, but I was happy to see it looked nice in the pictures.

Here's a list of firsts.

1- First zipper

result: HA! It would've been perfect but I bought an invisible zipper and sewed it in like you would a normal zipper! Oops! But it works. And it's only a little bit off in the back!

2. First inset sleeves.

result- LOVE LOVE these pleated sleeves in this pattern. I may put them in every dress! :-)

3- First attempt at a neckline facing

result- FAIL! I didn't even try. I just added a knit ruffle to the neck. Next time I will just line the whole bodice. It looks nicer than the facing ever does.

4- First pleated skirt.

result- I like it. Not sure if I LOVE it, but I like it. Not as difficult as I thought either.

Ruffle Tee shirt- and my "nautical" outfit

Because this shirt is white, it's hard to see much detail, but I added a ruffle to a plain white tee of mine and I just LOVE how it turned out!

It didn't photograph well, but you kind of get the idea. It really looks cute on! And... this white t-shirt was another one that hasn't fit for a while! Woo hoo!

You can't tell but these cute GAP capri's my mom bought me last year are white and navy stripe, I call them my nautical pants. :-) Solid white top and a chunky touch of red and I'm set! If only I had some red shoes! I wish!

By the way, I love doing this now. I am trying to branch out a bit with my clothing and really change the way I use what I have. And, it's getting easier to use what I have as all my clothes really fit me better now too. Happy Day!

The Ladybug Dress!

Yes, we do actually call this little girl "bug" all the time. Blame my husband!

This dress is made from an old white long sleeve gap tee and a red tank of mine. AND screen printed by me. Love the ladybug!

As you can see, the bugs on the skirt go all the way around!

I have one for Lizzie in the works but it may have to wait a few weeks. I need to finish me and the girls easter dresses and I am hitting crunch time for the show I am in, we open 3 weeks from tomorrow! Yikes!

On a side note. I just LOVE my little Sara. She doesn't sit still for long so it may seem like I don't post as many of her, but most of them just end up being the back of her head. She is such a BUSY girl! But I can't imagine life without her.

This is SO Sara. Snaggle tooth, eyes closed, hair everywhere-this is my girl! I love her so much! She is MY "little bug."

Okay, so I'm just going to admit it. We are dirt poor right now, AND I'm losing weight, so I really don't want to buy anything til I go down one size, but I am just DYING over some of these clothes. I am SO in love with Anthropologie and Shabby Apple. Here are some of the things I want really bad! (some would only work if I altered them, or made them myself, but you get the idea. I would never actually be able to buy anything from either of these stores!)

If I could pick one dress right now, the above dress "Spanish Steps" from Shabby Apple would be it. Love everything about it. So beautiful and romantic.

Love the bright colors on this dress.

Mostly I love the color of this dress. It is also offered in YELLOW! I may pick up some bright fabric and a pencil skirt pattern and attempt this.

Loving stripes right now, I need this in Navy and white.

I ADORE this! The length of the skirt, the color combination is AMAZING. I would never have put them together myself but I am determined to copy this somehow!

Spring in South Carolina!

Spring technically came to South Carolina the beginning of March, trees were blooming, birds singing. Now though, it seems everything is green and pretty! We took a little day trip out to Lynches River Park. It was so pretty and so fun!

I made a shirt for me!

Okay, This turned out REALLY cute, but I had my husband snap pictures at like 1030 at night when had just gotten back from a late rehearsal. I look AWFUL! Sooo, you get this above picture of the neckline...

And this better picture of the back. I made up the pattern, just a simple tee made similar to the knit dresses I make for the girls.

So comfortable, and FREE, because my friend gave me this knit.

Also, I have been wanting a "zebra" belt for over a year since my little sister looked so cute in hers, so I decided to make one! (and all my pants are falling down because I've lost total of 13 lbs in the last month or two! and honestly I didn't have any belts!)

Again, terrible picture, and very simple idea, but it looks cute and is comfortable. Hooray!

Yay for sewing for myself! :-) Next up, a skirt! I WILL conquer it! (Not a gathered or elastic skirt, one with a zipper!)

A preppy bow headband, and my new hair, AND WIWW.

I had to take a minute today and show off my CUTE new headband I made! It's just from felt, so easy! I would love to do a tutorial if anyone wants one...

And, I must show off my new hair! 6 weeks to the day after it having to get dyed ORANGE! (see original post here) I was back in getting it fixed by my awesome hair lady (who only charges me $50 for a multi color weave and haircut and style! amazing!)

Despite the goofy face above, I really do love it. The cut is SHORT, and I 'm still getting used to it, but the color is perfect. In fact, I think it's the best brown I've ever had.

And, I will be linking up to this weeks WIWW (what I wore wednesday) at the Pleated Poppy!

This shirt is one I got from GAP (my favorite store!) for only $3! It never fit right bc I gained weight right after buying it, and it now fits me PERFECTLY!

And, you can't see my super cute pants, also from GAP, because of my lame mirror, but they are dark grey slacks, and I love them.

I have actually managed to lose just over 10 lbs since Christmas! It's so nice being able to fit into some clothes that haven't fit in a while! And I feel great!

Weekend sale wrap-up!

My sale wasn't too bad. I made a profit of $30ish by the end. Unfortunately I sold mostly hair stuff and jewelry, only one onesie sold (my ladybug!) and none of the skirts or dresses. Oh well, it WAS a consignment sale, most people aren't looking for boutique stuff at those sales. I sure loved my tags for my earrings though! :-)

Freezer paper/screen printed onesies!!!

I made 6 stenciled onesies for my sale this coming weekend! Just to try them out and see how they do!

(excuse the poor pics, I took these while making them, just snapped a picture after ironing them)

Actually they are a combination of freezer paper stenciling, and screen printing, because I use screen printing paint and it is SO nice!

I wanted them to be Whimsicaland fun. And of course I didn't want to use the same idea twice, so they're all one of a kind!

Yes it's a unicorn. You're probably thinking, "nerd"~ and you would be right! But I love it! I love fantasy, not necessarily "unicorns", but I thought it was just too cute! I'm working on castle stencil.

I used a lot of "stickers" from picnik to create these, simply printing the picture out and then tracing it onto my freezer paper.

However the ladybug is all my own. I already have a dress made for Sara featuring this print, I love it! And it's all mine! It's a good feeling!

Oh, and there is 1 appliqued onesie for sale. I love this one!

However this lemon one is probably my favorite! I love lemon anything, and it's yellow of course! :-)

Note, these look way better in real light, and layed flat! And yes I know they're not perfect, but I like that about them, it's more, I don't know, "artsy"?

Maxi Toddler Dress

I most definitely should have taken a before picture, but just picture this, in an adult size. I got this dress from my sister, it was too short on her, and I determined to make Lizzie a Maxi dress of her own! I haven't seen any of these in toddler sizes, and I thought it would be adorable!

She is just doing the cutest poses!

It was super easy, and it's so cute on her, and she loves to wear it!

And I finally got my little Sara to pose for a picture. Kind of! She is so silly! I swear when I put those pigtails in moments before snapping this, they were even! She never stops moving!

Rosette Necklace- TUTORIAL!

Have you been eyeballing all the beautiful rose necklaces on etsy and other shops? I have seen a few tutorials for these, but thought I would share how I would do it. And, I just really wanted one! And I couldn't justify $30-$150 (yes some are REALLY that expensive! Why?) for something I knew I could make one my own. I am in LOVE with the way this necklace looks on! I chose to use some leftover muslin fabric, for an off white look.

Ready to make your own?

First- cut a strip about 1/2-3/4 inch wide by 18 inches long (longer if you want a bigger flower)

Fold the strip in half, glueing it down the crease as you go.

You will now have one long strip that stays folded in half.

Start to roll it, beginning to twist the fabric every once in a while.

Don't forget to twist or it will look really wierd! I tried to keep the fraying side up more than the fold, to give it a "shabby" look.

Once finished, make as many as you want for your necklace. I wanted 5, and I made the center just slightly larger than the other four.

Cut a piece of felt out almost like a bib, making sure the outer curve is the same shape as the curve you wish the necklace to follow.

Then, to keep things even, glue a flower on either side. And then again on either side of those.

You may want to put a little hot glue in between each flower, or they can get a little bit "floppy"

Once the flowers are all glued one the way you like them, then cut off all the extra felt, so that none is visible from the front.

Now for the chain. I used two different chains for a mismatched look, but you can use the same size too. Measure from where you want the necklace to rest on your chest to the back of your neck, each side, from the sides of your rosettes. (Obviously each chain side should be the same length.)

Using beading pliers (or your husbands smallest pliers if you're like me!) hook a hoop to one chain, and a clasp to that hoop. Then hook a hoop to the other chain. (I am not a proffessional beader, so forgive the lack of correct terms!)

You should now have two chains, one with a clasp, and one with a small ring or something to hook the clasp to. I also added a pearl to the end of the chain, so that if I adjusted the necklace at all the pearl would hang down a bit.

Cut two pieces of felt, I chose this shape but it's not really important because...

You are now going to glue UNDER the chain, then on top of the chain, and then place the felt piece on. (I used LOTS of glue)

This is what the finished back should look like!

You did it! I hope that made some sense! :-)

Coordinating Dresses! And Screen Printing!

I really hope you're not getting bored of the knit dresses yet! They are for sure MY new favorite!

The larger shirt on the left is made from scrap knit and a $1 tee from walmart. (yellow with flowers) I based the color scheme off that tee.

I really wanted to make Sara a matching one, but didn't have any more of the cute print so I came up with a good solution.

I PRINTED MY OWN!

I'm sure freezer paper is nothin new to you. But I didn't just use fabric paint, I used "screen printing" paint. It looks so much nicer, especially on knits.

I free-handed the sun. I really love it! But you can also buy stencils or print shapes and trace them.

Unfortunately though my girls have been majorly grumpy this week, so I have zero pictures of Sara in hers, and only some wierd ones of Lizzie.

The Little Knit Dress- #3 Flowers and Stripes

I have been inspired lately by the fabric combination that are in style. Sometimes it almost seems like things that match, are not "in" anymore? Am I alone in that thought?!

I have a hard time not matching on purpose! :-) This was the best I could do! I have seen a lot of flower/stripe combos around lately, and thought I'd give it a try. Honestly, I really like they way it turned out!

Lizzie is getting a little tired of all the photo shoots lately, and started out pretty grumpy, but i was able to warm her up a bit!

This has got to be one of my all time favorite pictures of Lizzie now. I love the way it turned out!

The Little Knit Dress- Version #2-

This is MUCH better. I made this one shorter (and she still liked it! that's a first!) and was able to fix my sleeve pattern so they look a lot nicer.

I did not use many old t-shirts for this, but I did use leftover knit fabric, mostly from Hobby Lobby. The black is a $1 walmart teeshirt. I did splurge and spend a couple dollars on the PINK Zebra Trim.

Again, I did not use any pattern that I bought, I have been developing my own. To start, I merely traced a well fitting t-shirt of Lizzie's and guessed from there.

Many of the recycled t-shirt dresses I have seen around "blogland" are either really loose fitting, or really boxy. This dress is neither, which makes me so happy! And it fit Lizzie perfectly!

For a very Hard to Please girl, I was so happy that she liked this dress.

And, it will work with leggings until the sun really comes out!

Knit Dress- REVEALED!

I have been working super hard on this project of mine. The girls have hardly any clothes for summer, especially Lizzie, my 3 year old. Finances are super tight, and I decided I needed to scrounge up $30 to get a head start on their clothes. So, I went to walmart and hit all the $1 and $3 clearance racks, and bought fun knit t-shirts in women's sizes, and solid colors as well to use as fabric.

I am developing a pattern for these, and once perfected they may well make it into my shop, but for now keep in mind they are a work in progress! So ignore the imperfections! This one is VERY uneven, but it works for a playdress. My 2nd and 3rd attempts have turned out much straighter, but you'll just have to wait for those!

And now... introducing...

Completely recycled, and completely adorable.

Speaking of the details, the sleeves are the part that bugs me the most. I am working on those, each dress they look a little better! (you will be seeing many of these in the coming weeks!)

Also, I obviously am struggling cutting knits straight! HA!

And the most obvious is, that if I had a serger, these would be much more "even".

Since I can't afford one right now, I bought some ballpoint needles, and they really made a difference, so if you're struggling keeping knits smooth, try those first!

(this version we named The Sherbet Dress) and Lizzie loves it. And I used stuff already on hand (mostly raided from my closet) so it cost me.... $0.

And do you know the best part?

They are SUPER comfortable. In fact, I may need one!

Lemon Skirt!

One of my best tutorials is my Elastic Waistband Skirt. I made one for each of my girls and for my sister in this super cute lemon fabric.

And, that resulted in one of my favorite photo shoots ever... HERE!

Well, my Sara now fits into Lizzie's skirt from last year. So of course I had to take some pictures! My new sewing/computer chair my husband got me for Valentine's day, is the perfect item for a photo shoot when I want some big smiles! This thing can SPIN!

Sewing Fears...

So, I have two MAJOR sewing fears.

And I am hard at work sewing some spring/summer clothes, but trying to sew things other than with just elastic. So bear with me if this blog seems a little sew. When I DO show you what I'm working on, it ~~will be should be~~ might be FANSTASTIC.

Pink Polka Dot Pajama's!

I took an old t-shirt, back before the "baby days" that I new I would NEVER be able to wear again, and turned it into these cute PJS for Lizzie!

I hate buying PJ's, even the Walmart ones ar $6, and they fall apart so fast, and shrink too!

Cotton PJ's are cute too, but there's something about cozy knit pajama's!

Nautical Pants and Beret~

I can't help it. BLUE and White always make me think of the SEA.

I love nautical themes, simple, clean lines, a lot of white, navy blue...

So when my Grandma sent me a stretchy dress that I loved the print, but that was way too big for me, I decided the girls needed some comfy, casual, beach clothes.

Unfortunately, even in South Carolina, it's a little cold for the beach right now, so these pics were NOT taken at the beach, they were taken in my dimly lit apartment. Maybe later this spring I'll do a second photo shoot at the beach sometime. Oh and I'm just learning how to use my new point and shoot camera, (someday I WILL have a dsl...) so I am still learning which functions NOT to use. Like the one that keeps them from being blurry, don't use. Because then the pics are really grainy and too sharp.

For now...

Cute capri's for Sara, and adding a bit of femininity with her lace onesie I also made! (woah, her eyes look kind of freaky in this pic! I need some serious time practicing with my camera!)

Lizzie's was a two part outfit. She got a SUPER easy and amazing beret. I can totally see me making this my new signature item, there's even a pattern for me too! I got the pattern from Lil Blue Boo.
Seriously give this pattern a try, each hat only takes about 15 minutes to make, and it's a great way to use any old t-shirts or extra knit you have lying around.

I decided for now to make Lizzie pants instead of capri's, she doesn't have many comfy pants, and thought she could use these like this until it warms up and then I can cut them into capri's.

The pants/capri's were very easy too. I just traced some other knit pants of thiers, and then sewed it together. If you've ever made pants before, it's a very simple process. Use a pattern or tutorial a few times and then the possibilities are endless.

Red and Blue dress for Lizzie

My little Lizzie likes her dresses LONG. And when I say long, I mean pioneer long, and she cries if they don't touch the floor. So, this dress may be a bit old-fashioned, and it will certainly look better with a short sleeve shirt underneath, but I think it turned out pretty cute!

I used the same pattern as I used for the baby dress in my previous post, except I used the toddler version. The shoulder ties on this dress are much better length. Pattern here

Going with my FAVORITE color combo, I whipped this up in probably less than an hour. It's very easy!

I scored the fabric for $5 a yard at the only local fabric store here, which has since gone out of business. It wasn't a great selection though, so I wasn't too sad. This print, however, made my heart pound. I LOVE the vintage style flowers,and the colors are just so retro!

She seemed to like it, but was a little miffed that it didn't actually TOUCH the ground. I also made it a bit big so she can wear it for a while! I just wish I could've made it shorter, but, I will pick my battles!

Of course, I had to put us all in red/blue, turqouise, combos that day. So much fun!

Baby girl gifts- hat, onesie and dress!

A friend of mine here just had a beautiful baby girl! I love sewing for baby girls! I made these hats from some knit fabric, they were SUPER easy, the pattern is from HERE

This dress was sewn from this pattern but make sure to make the straps a lot longer than the pattern. After sewing mine together I had to use velcro on the straps instead of tying them , which was very frustrating!

And of course, an easy appliqued onesie, I love how it goes with one of my little hats!

I'm getting so baby hungry! Love babies!

Lace Tee Shirt- Adult version Tutorial

I've seen some of these floating around the blog world, most of them are inspired by anthropologie it seems! I decided I wanted something really simple, so I found this white tee shirt for $2 at a thrift store, and the lace was $2.50! So for 4.50 I created a shirt I absolutely LOVE!

Wanna make one?

It's SUPER DUPER easy!

You will need a plain tee shirt, and some lace.

First, decide how you want your lace to lay on the shirt. I did a long one in the center, and then two more on each side that were each shorter.

Pin...

Then, being careful not to stretch the tee as you stitch, carefully machine stitch on the lace, I went around the edges of the lace, not just down the center.

And voila! You are finished!

I paired my tee with a SUPER comfy cardi I picke up at the thrift store for $4, it's Banana Republic, and made of pima cotton, and in perfect condition. And, it's Yellow! Doesn't get much better than that!

Thrifty finds- skirt

This skirt was a steal at $4. Comfy and stretchy, it is still flattering, and comes to rest below my knee in a cute ruffle. In fact, I may be copying this skirt in many colors! It looks pretty easy!

Still getting used to my hair! This is how it looks curly! Still working on that! :-) It's fun though, I've never had hair this short and I'm actually enjoying it! And it's SOOOOO easy!

The shirt in the picture above was another thrifty find, Banana Republic, for $4! But, sadly the material is SO thin that while putting it on I pulled to hard on the hem and it ripped! Not sure if it's fixable, the material is SO thin.

A major crime... and I'm not just talking about my hair!

Someone STOLE our Van!!! Argh! I am so frustrated! We were debt free yesterday and today we now just have one beat up car that has no a/c. I am hoping we can find it soon. This has NEVER happened to me before!

I did have a tutorial to get ready, but now it's going to have to wait a few days.

Oh, and my hair... they HAD to cut off the black ends, so it's super short, and the only way to get rid of the color was to strip it and then weave blond into it. So, it's a little orange, but hopefully I can get it redyed in 6 weeks, anymore color or stripping would have killed my hair! And she fixed my bad walmart bangs, so it's a bit more layered than planned, but my hair grows fast now. Can't wait to see how curly it goes though! It's going to be wild! It's kind of fun though, I like it, I think! :-)

haha, and YES, I did airbrush them a bit bc I had a small allergic reaction to one of the dyes and broke out. Argh. Bad, bad week. Did I mention BEFORE our van was stolen this morning, I have been sick all week with a cold? And yesterday I have hair from heck, and today our van was stolen.

I went thrifting today. It helped. :-)

Long or Short?

Sorry for the overpost of hair issues! I hate my hair, and I am soooo indecisive! My hair is a pain long, it is super curly so it takes about 30 minutes to untangle it when I get out of the shower if it's long. I am getting the color fixed today, and can't decide to get a trim, or go short. Here's some pics (it will be dark brown)

(keep inmind the short hair pics were pre-baby #2, about 20 lbs ago! :-)

Not the most clear pics, and I will have to have bangs, after my walmart butcher job a few months ago, they are still thick and unblendable! :-)

Anyway, I am going this evening, any advise would be greatly appreciated!

What I Wore Wednesday- a little thrifting love...

I finally was able to take a decent piture in my little mirror of my clothes today. I've been wanting to participate in What I Wore Wednesday a Pleated Poppy- as motivation for me to start getting dressed every day, even just at home.

This is today-

Pants- Old Navy, $17.00 and these are my favorite pants! I know they're washed out denim style but they are SO comfy!

Shirt- $1.97 thrift store

Cardi- $4 thrift store (this cardi is 33% silk! so cozy!)- i actually have big refashoning plans for this cardi

Belt- from my little sister- i think I paid her in either bows or handme downs!

And, here is a pictureof my new dark hair. I am getting lighter brown high lights put in Friday, so hopefully that will lighten the overall effect! With make-up it's truly not so bad, just SO different!

I do need to darken my eyebrows a bit though...

On a side note, I have been down with a terrible cold, the only reason I got dressed today is we are heading to look at some other back-up houses this afternoon, just in case our short sale we are buying comes back rejected. So ready to get crafting, I want to make-over my thrifted stuff!

Thrifty shoes!

I went out by myself on Saturday to our local Goodwill, where I NEVER have good luck, and I absolutely scored! So excited to share! Today, I will share the shoes I bought, and later I will have some thrifty clothing restyling tutorials, after I get them washed and transformed!

I am SO excited about these! Shoes for my Lizzie! And she grows out of shoes super fast, so if only i could buy all her shoes this cheap!

And, for me...

The purple ones are SUPER cute on, even though i only have 1 shirt that matches them perfectly, but I can still wear them with black and white and gray. The black shoes in the corner were soooo comfy, but I need help. What do I wear with them? If I'm wearing them with jeans, do I wear socks? Black? ARgh, where is my little sister fashionista when I need her!

And I can't believe I am posting this, but I need HELP!On a side note... I dyed my hair dark brown, and it's almost black! eek! I washed it with a clarifying shampoo, and it stripped a bit of the color away, but it's SO dark still! Completely washes me out! Yikes! I need help! Any tips? I can't afford to head to a salon, and I'd love to fix it at home.

I think it might look better if I had more make-up on and some lipstick too.

White Chocolate Lemon Bark

So, now that it's February, I realized I never posted a couple of the treats we had at Christmas. The one I am going to give you the recipe for, isn't really a "Christmasy" treat anyway, it would be great ~~all the time~~ anytime!

And the best thing about it? It's SUPER Easy.

You will need...

Almond Bark- (depends on how much you want to make, we made half a package I think)

Lemon Drops- (again, depends on how lemony you want it!)

1. Cover a big cookie sheet with aluminum foil.

2. Melt your bark in either the microwave (be careful to stir often) or on the stove.

3. Crush your lemon drops into a fine powder, or if you wish, leave it a bit chunky. The choice is yours, I wish I had crushed mine a bit more, so whatever you prefer.

4. Before allowing bark to cool, quickly stir in lemon drop powder, and then spread the mixture thinly and evenly on the cookie sheet.

5. Let harden in the freezer for at least 30 minutes, do not let freeze though, it won't break apart then, it will just shatter.

6. Break into pieces and serve!

Enjoy! I am SUCH a fan of lemon anything, and my husband isn't, but he really enjoyed this too! :-)

Into the Woods... starring... ME!

Well, I am super excited to share some personal news here. I just landed the role of the Baker's Wife in Florence Little Theater's production of Into the Woods!

I've kind of kept my crafting side and my music side apart, but my life is going to get a lot busier until May. We start rehearsals in February, and I am so excited! This is the biggest show I've been cast in.

For those of you who do not know, the Baker's Wife is actually one of the 3 main female leads in this show. The Florence Little Theater is a community theater, but they do very proffesional performances and are able to charge $25 a seat. And, since I am a major character, not only do I get cool costumes, I actually get my own costumer assigned to me! Just for me!

I am SOOOO excited! I've been auditioning this past week, and have been so nervous, but didn't want to say anything unless I didn't get it! But I did! And it is going to be SO good for me!

Here's what I wore to night 2 of auditions, and I had the cutest top on but you can barely see it under the jacket! Sad! It is SO cute! And of course, a red flower, and a red necklace! Super cute!

Lemons Outfits revisited!

So, a year ago I made Lemon skirts for the girls and for my sister. And I also made a cute lemons and lace dress that never fit Lizzie right. Sara can now wear the skirt I made for Lizzie, and Lizzie fits in the dress, finally! They looked so cute, and since the background of the lemon print is more of a cream color, they were able to wear their cream jackets and tights, so it transitioned well for winter. I love yellow in winter, it cheers up the whole world! Enjoy my cute girls!

As we're waiting to close on our "hopeful" house, I have been thinking decorating like crazy. The rest of the house is pretty simple, but the kitchen. Yikes. You can tell it was built it 1980. The color of the counters.

What am I supposed to pair with that yucky 80's green? I need advice! I was thinking gray? Or, should I just put it off until 2012 and hopefully then replace the counters, put in a dishwasher, and replace the floors all at the same time? What do you think? Help! (And yes... the wallpaper HAS to go!)

Lacey Onesie Tutorial!

I have had this tutorial saved for a while, just hadn't gotten around to posting it! I LOVE the way this turned out! My pictures are pretty terrible, hopefully my new house will have better lighting!

You will need a white onesie or t shirt, and flat (not ruffled) lace. I'm not sure how much you need since I used a roll I had bought a while ago, but after you read through the instructions you should have a pretty good idea.

Here we go...

First, take your flat Lace, and cut it into strips of about 12 inches in length... more if you're doing a bigger shirt... and I used 6 on this shirt, you could do more on less depending on how Lacey you want it!

It's so hard to see in the picture, but I arranged 3 strips diagonally one way, and then crisscrossed the other 3 the opposite diagonal.

This is the angle I used, you could do straight across rows too for a different look! I then carefully sewed across the top, extra careful not to pull the onesie as I sew, or else the knit onesie would get warped!

Then, I continued down, criss cross style.

The final product! When I finished sewing the strips on I of course trimmed the lace even with the side seams, and then I Sewed down the side of the lace. Very important! I If you do not do this your lace will poke up in wierd places. I also just sewed down any other odd place that might poke out. Very simple, and the stitches are practically invisible with white thread!

Yes, I am too lazy to turn my pictures right now! But, you get the idea! You can kind of see the undershirt peeking beneath this sweater! I looks good alone too... I want one for me!

So, there you have it! Let me know if you have any questions! Super easy, and super fancy! :-)

Parade of Food

For Christmas my parent bought my girls a huge kitchen. You know the kind, super fancy, but very sturdy. Years of fun ahead.

They already had some plastic food and some dishes sets, but I just LOVE the look of felt food, so I decided to make some.

It's VERY time consuming, but really enjoyable. I love hand sewing. So relaxing!

I just sort of played around, made up my own, but if you google "felt food tutorial" you will get a ton of result I am sure.

Haha, my bacon slice turned out interesting...

This didn't photograph very well, but it's actually a saltine! It's very realistic in real life!

(A sandwich) They may not be as durable as the plastic food, but they were just to make and very cute to look at !

I think this watermelon took me about 3 hours! (Gotta love the chubby hand reaching for it!)

Sorry I've been a little absent on here lately. I have so many projects planned, but have been taking a little time off from crafting to prioritize some things. Our house is still on hold, we hopefully will find out this week if the bank accepts our offer. Just a tip, unless you have the patient of a saint, don't buy a foreclosure or short sale home! :-) Nah, it'll be worth it if we get it for the price we offered, 20,000 below listing price!

I've mostly been missing home but enjoying these girls. Love them.

Not only am I responsible for the two adorable girls peeking out the window above, I am proud because I also made both the skirt and pants! :-)

Love. If only they were like this all the time!

My wonderful husband and I also celebrated our 4th anniversary on the 21st. Me and him. Not Lizzie and him. :-)

Anyway, I have some ideas about the direction I want this blog to take, I am just sorting them all out. Be patient with me. I thank you all for being such loyal followers, and I swear this blog will pick up again as our lives settle down a bit!

SNOW in South Carolina

Today we woke up to something I never thought I'd see here... Snow!

Of course we had to go play in it a bit!

Funny thing is we got a phone call and they actually canceled church! Hilarious! For 2 or 3 inches of snow, and the roads were very clear and not very slick!

And... the forecast for this coming Friday is 70 degrees. Wow! So funny! Snow one week and warm sunshine the next!

First Glimpse of the Belle Dress

This is the first glimpse you get of the Belle dress I made for Christmas for Lizzie. It will hopefully fit her as I didn't want to try it on her beforehand and ruin the surprise!

The drapey shawl part is just attached in front and back so it will hopefully drape better on her than on the hanger!

Busy!

I really have been crafting like crazy! I am just so busy right now! Our first house we had picked out fell through, so we are searching all over again! :-) We just made an offer on what will hopefully become our new home! So now we are waiting! Again!

Also, my picasa WILL NOT WORK! Agh! I don't know what to do? When I click to open it, I just get an error message. My pics are all saved on my computer, but they were all edited in Picasa! So no new pics from me until I get Picasa fixed! But, I will leave you with a little Christmas spirit!

And I got a new haircut. Which has been driving me crazy, this was before I washed it, it's now crazy curly!

And, I LOVE my Christmas tree! It's so cute! No presents underneath though, they would not last 5 seconds with my girls! :-)

Scrappy Applique Shirts- Tutorial~

My girls have plenty of plain pink t's, so I decided to make these ones a little more interesting!

Don't have a template for you, but as you can see they're just different sized circles with scalloped edges. It's a little time cosuming, but I like the result a lot!

Sorry for the poor picture quaility! Then you just layer them on top of each other, largest on the bottom, smallest on top.

I then stitch across this, sort of as if cutting a pizza. After that I spiral inward starting on the outside. This will work best with tiny patterns, then you won't notice the thread so much. With a more solid print I would just do the pizza pattern.
I then apply this flower to some heat n bond.

For this particular flower, I used ric rac for the stem. Sew the ric rac on before applying the flower! And don't forget to stitch again around the flower to secure it.

Next I cut out two leaf shapes,
And appliqued them, using heat n bond.

Please excuse the white thread, I don't have any pink right now, wanted this to be free!

Lastly, I added a button to the center.

Nothing fancy, but cute and easy! This could be done SO many different ways, as you can tell I positioned the girl's flower differently.

I promise there is a ton of crafting going on right now! I am sewing a bunch of dress-ups for the girls for Christmas, and some clothes as well. And, my quilt is ready to be tied! Or sewn, can't decide! And it's huge! So excited about it!

Also, we will be closing on our new house January 7th! We are so excited!

Our Thanksgiving

Here we are on our very warm 80 degree Thanksgiving. It was wierd! We were dying of heat in the kitchen!

Here is my first ever apple pie. haha. It was as good as it looks!

We really had a wonderful time. We love it here in SC and we love the wonderful friends we have made here. We are so blessed.

A successful baby shower!

My friend and I hosted a shower for another one of our friends who is having a baby girl in January. She has another little girl already and is sick of pink, so we opted for the purple and green theme. We had so much fun planning it and putting it all together, and it turned out great!

I made 8 onesies, and a tutu, and countless flowers as my gift, and for use as decor!

I also made easy paper pinwheels, and martha stewart's tissue paper balls, so cute!

I made my super dark dark chocolate cake, I must make it again soon so I can post the recipe!

My friend Erin made the cutest diaper cake, and the most delicous spinach dip and cheese ball!

I thought it looked pretty good! And the food was awesome, and the cider brought a cozy feel to the party. It was so fun too, and we had a great turnout!

Too small elastic headbands...

Found this pack of two awesome headbands for 2.99, and loved them. Problem though, when I put them on, they were way too small.

So, I snipped them in half, at the elastic,

Then, starting in the middle, hot glued them to a plastic headband I had lying around.

I love it!

One for me, one for my little sister! Cute!

thrifting!

A good friend and I went to Columbia SC for a morning of thrifting fun! It was such a blast ! We scored! And had a great time chatting! I needed a simple sewing desk, and this is what we found! $20! Picture it white or ice blue, and with fancy knobs. Oh, and since we're buying a house, picture a huge row of shelves above it! :-)

This chandeliar needs serious work, but for $2 totally loved the shape. Going to paint it either white and hang against a colored wall, or paint it pink for the girls room.

Score! Vintage style wallpaper (to be used sparingly and tastefully!) for $2!

And there's enough to paper a whole house!

Best find... This mirror, $5!!! It is in great condition! Also going to be white or a cool color.

And I finally found a cute vintage sheet! I love this!

Oh, and a month ago I ordered some flower cabochons through etsy, and they didn't arrive with the correct order. So, they refunded my money AND sent me my order express, along with some other fun jewelry tools. All the bright stuff you see in here was free! And that's not including the 5 necklaces hanging up! Score! Although, I will not be ordering there again, the colors were a bit dingy, and even on the 2nd try they didn't send me the colors I ordered. But, they were free! Sweet!

Homemade Tortillas...

So I attempted homemade tortillas, well, not quite, since they were from a mix. They were good, but once this bag is gone I think I'm going to go for it and mix it up from scratch.

I cooked chicken breast with taco seasoning in the crockpot all day and then simmered green peppers and onions on a frying pan in butter.

Bad picture, but you get the idea. Mmmmm.

The Dollar Store Flower Clip... tutorial!

So, this is my easy and cheap stand by flower clip. I thought, that since I am closing my shop monday, I would now share how to make these. Now, just a little FYI on the flower supplies... about 80% of the time I can find good flowers at the $1 store. Perfect. I was SO thrilled when I found these gold flowers, and I also bought a bouquet of silver. Great find! Sometimes, especially for nice ones, and for certain shapes, I will use a coupon and buy the fake flowers at joanns or hobby lobby. Cuter and more sturdy and nice looking, they will cost more though.

Got that? Now on to the tutorial!

First, pull off 2 flowers, (or however many you want, depending on how thick and how many layers you want)

Then, pull off the plastic stuff, all you want left are the flower petals.

See?

Stack your flowers, largest on the bottom. Make sure to alternate the petals, or else it will look dumb. Repeat while alternating petals and hot glue.

Add pearls, or rhinestone, or even a cute scrapbook brad. Hot glue.

Cut a small piece of felt, apply hot glue...

Open alligator clip and place over the hot glue, while sticky...

Then quickly stick the felt and clip to the back of the flower.

Voila! This one's a bit Christmasy for my taste, I really need to get some new scrapbook centers, but for now all I have is pearl beads. But I still absolutely LOVE these flowers!

For this center I just put a pile of hot glue in the center, and dumped a small handful of pearl beads on it, shaking off the ones that were loose.

There you have it! My first secret revealed! Not that it's super orignal or even very difficult, but I came up with it! :-)

Myrtle Beach and Halloween

I haven't been getting a ton of crafting because we have been crazy busy, but I did alter Lizzie's dress for halloween. I started out with a size 10/12 dress that was my little sisters.

I added a flower on the front to cover the ugly faded Cinderella, plus I hate that Disney puts a pictures of the princess on their dresses. Why? That's not how it was originally? I don't get it.

I loved this picture. She really did look like Cinderella at the party. She was so pretty.

And I made her this pretty headband from the fabric I cut off the bottom.

And little miss Sara was an absolutely adorable monster!

On Saturday we joined some friends at Myrtle Beach (1 1/2 hours from us here). It was a blast! The girls had so much fun!

Sara ingested SO much sand! She was dipping her sandwich in it then taking a bite!

And she loved it when we fed the seagulls. She probably chased them for a solid hour!

The water was just barely too cold to get in but it was still a nice day and we enjoyed just playing.

And I got to try fried Oreos! A Southern specialty. They were smushy and wierd. Not my favorite treat down here.

We are so lucky to live so close to the beach right now! I love it! I am hoping while we are here in SC we can save up to stay at a condo in the fall or spring, when we could rent one for a week for under $300. Some as low as $40 a night! With kitchens, on the beach, very nice, and the kitchens would save us a lot of money. How fun would that be for Christmas? Especially since we are going to be kind of sad over here across the country from both our families for the first time at Christmas.

Pork Tacos.... and cilantro lime slaw

I found this recipe here at make it and love it. It looked similar to the Cafe Rio Pork (link on my sidebar), but it was actually quite different, very sweet, and very good. I halved the recipe.

Just a note, plan ahead, this cooks in a crockpot, overnight, and all day. I put mine in the night before and woke up to find this goodness looking back and me and filling my house with a delicous smell...

Carmelized onions. Ooooh.

I mixed up the slaw right before dinner, and I was a little nervous, I do NOT like cole slaw, but this was divinely perfect. Just a hint of spicy, even my husband ate it!

You MUST try these! SO so good!!

A little announcement

So, I have officially decided to close my doors. Just of my shop, not the blog. I do have a wonderful surprise for all my new followers and my old faithfuls :-) coming soon though. Hopefully the end of next week.

Also, this blog will be changing a bit as well. I love doing this blog, but I became a little obsessive about posting all the time, and that's going to change. You'll still see me every other day or so, but I won't be trying desperately to post every day. With this change though...

This blog will become more focused on sharing my ideas. Not just showing you finished products, but sharing tutorials, for almost everything I make. If I came up with it or tweaked it, I plan on making a tutorial. So... that's good news for you guys!

Lizzie's Ball Gown

This is her "touching my toes, all the way to the ground, spin lots dress." As she calls it. She is so happy with it I have to hide it, or else she wants to wear it every day!

It is basically a peasant top, with two large tiers attached. I was going to add one more tier, but it was looking a little long. I finished it off with some bias tape I had lying around.

The ribbon is attached through the seams, and cinches the dress in perfectly. I love the way it turned out!

Just right for my princess! :-)

Sorry I've been a little absent this week, I am getting ready to sell at a flea market here tomorrow, first time in South Carolina. Oreo Cake- 2 ingredients!

So, I went to a cooking evening for church the other evening, and the lady in charge served this. So simple, but really good.

Ingredients:
Oreos (I used 1 bag chocolate and 1 bag vanilla-cheap brand!)
Whipped Cream- not the small ones, the double size

Oh, and a glass of milk too- so I guess it's 3 ingredients!

Then, take each oreo and dip in milk (I hold for 4 or 5 seconds) then arrange on the bottom of the pan.

Because I used both kinds, I arranged them in a checkerboard arrangement.

Next, spread whipped cream over the oreos, about half the container.

Then, repeat the above steps, creating a 2nd layer of oreos, and a second/top layer of whipped cream.

This needs to sit covered in the fridge all day to let the oreos get soft. So I suggest making it in the morning. Or, like me, the night before. (I wasn't about to let my girls see me with the oreos, they would scream until I gave in!)

Top with sprinkles if desired and enjoy your very fatty but delicious dessert!

I may or may not have had a piece for breakfast... ;-)
